01/06/2010: On January 05, 2010, Google announced the avaliability of Nexus One , a smartphone from Google built by Taiwan's HTC Corporation and uses Android open source mobile operating system. Some of the features of the phone include the ability to transcribe voice to text, noise canceling dual microphones, and voice directions while driving. The phone is available locked and unlocked. Locked version from T-Mobile in the United States. The phone is sold on Google's website, at a price of $529 unlocked, or a subsidized verson can be purchased from T-Mobile for $179 when purchased with a two year contract. The Nexus One features a 3.7 in (9.4 cm) active matrix OLED display (480 x 800 px, WVGA) with a 100,000:1 contrast ratio, 1 GHz Qualcomm 8250 processor, 512MB of RAM, a 4GB microSD card, 512MB of internal flash storage, a 5.0 megapixel auto focus camera with LED flash and digital zoom, GPS receiver, light and proximity sensors, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, and 802.11b/g/n Wifi capabilities. | 06/24/2009: Nokia’s touch screen multimedia N97 smartphone was introduced in India last week through Vodafone and is being dubbed as yet another iPhone killer. Sony Xperia X1 was first announced earlier this year at the 2008 Mobile World Congress. The Sony Xperia X1 was introduced in the UK by Vodafone on October 27, 2008 and it released in North America on November 28, 2008 for $799 (unlocked). Due to last minute software glitch, the phone launch has been delayed. The new smartphone will be the first to have touch screen interface for a BlackBerry and should give the iPhone and TMobile's G1 a run for money. Verzion Wireless will be the exclusively service provide for the BlackBerry Storm and could be priced around $200. | 07/11/2008: Today, the new iPhone was launched by Apple Inc. worldwide. With AT T as the exclusive carrier of the service for the iPhone. Lines were being formed outside the apple story from last night. The new iPhone 3G adds some nice new features along with the lower price (thanks to subsidies by the carrier) of $199, but now AT T will require the phone activation in the store vs at home. In Manhattan's Fifth Avenue, Apple's flagship store, customer had to wait more then 20 minutes to get the new iPhone activated because of some problem with the activation process. iPhone also had good sales in Japan, France, New Zealand, and Germany. | 05/06/2008: Vodafone announced that it has been selected to provide the Apple's iPhone in ten new countries. The list of the countries are Australia, the Czech Republic, Egypt, Greece, Italy, India, Portugal, New Zealand, South Africa and Turkey. Vodafone will start to sell the Apple iPhone as early as later this year. | 04/01/2008: Today at the CTIA, Samsung introduced the Instinct . The Instinct looks and may feel much Apple's iPhone but comes with many of the features missing from iPhone. The phone will release in mid-June and be avaliable for Sprint users. Some of the new features are 3G access, replaceable battery, expandable memory, a 2MP camera, stereo Bluetooth and feedback for the touchscreen. The Instinct measures 4.6" by 2.2" by 0.49" and weighs 4.4 ounces. |
