Qatar Airways puts in a order to buy 80 A350 XWB

05/28/2007:
Qatar Airways puts in a order to buy 80 A350 XWB long-range planes from Airbus SAS worth $16 billion. The plans are to be equipped with engines made by Rolls-Royce Group. Delivery of the Airbus A350 will begin in 2013. Boeing has beaten Airbus so far for the new bigger planes with about 567 order with Airbus having about 13. Airbus is based in Toulouse, France. Singapore Airlines Ltd has also places an order for 20 A350 XWBs and Russia's OAO Aeroflot to buy 22 A350s.

Egyptian treat a women believed to be infected with the virus. This would be the country's third case in less than a week. Egypt's three suspected cases come from Qaloubiyah governorate. The woman in the latest case had handled infected birds and had slaughtered some of them earlier this month.

Pakistan on Tuesday became the latest country to confirm bird flu in two poultry flocks late last month was the H5N1 strain. Fears are growing the H5N1 flu virus will mutate and pass easily from one person to another but for the moment it remains hard for people to catch it from infected birds.

Czech Republic authorities say 12 cases of bird flu found in dead wild swans have been confirmed to be the deadly H5N1 strain of the virus. Thirteen EU countries have now had confirmed outbreaks of bird flu, which has killed more than 100 people in Asia since 2003.

It was reported today that Hamas militants have fired a barrage of rockets and mortar shells toward Israel maybe ending a five-month truce with Israel. The reason for the new fighting may have been the killing of civilians over the weekend in which nine Palestinians were killed in fighting with Israel.

New Delhi court has passed a new rule that prohibits smoking while driving. The new law will go into effect on April 9, 2007. The fine for such a offences is set to about $32 which is more then many will be able to pay. With the high rate of corruption, will this new law will be enforable? Only time will tell.

General Motors announced increase in purchase of auto parts from India

General Motors announced that it will is looking into increasing it's purchase of auto parts from India. India is projected to grow very fast over the next decade with the generation having the income to purchase cars. Currently GM has a plant in Gujarat state and is currently building a plant in Maharashtra state which will greatly increase it's production. Currently GM markets Corsa, the Chevrolet Optra and Aveo sedans and the Tavera.

Reliance Retail Limited has launched Reliance Fresh, its fresh food outlets, stepping into the into retail business. The first retail stores will open in Hyderabad on Nov 3, 2006. The first retail outlet was opened to media in Banjara Hills neighbourhood. It will offer a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, and other products in a world-class ambience. Ambani's wife Nita Ambani, is in charge of branding and has designed the stores.

This would the largest ever foreign takeover by an Indian company and would follow Mittal Steel's $31 billion acquisition of rival Arcelor earlier this year. Motorola Inc’s, Padmasree Warrior, executive vice- president and chief technology officer believes the future is in Wi-Max and 4G. Currently India uses 2.5G technologies and BSNL is seeking to rollout 3G networks and has placed an order for equipment worth $5 billion.
Warrior is seens as the India IT industry’s poster girl and rated one of the four most influential women executives by Fortune magazine. Motorola has the proprietary Canopy wireless broadband solution which it has taken up in Rajasthan for a pilot project.

India beats England in the 1st ODI of the Champions Trophy. The match was played in Sawai Mansingh Stadium (Chogan Stadium), Jaipur where India won the toss Elected To Bowl. India bowled out England for 125 runs in only 37 overs. India then batted to make 126 for 6 in just over 29 overs. The Man of the Match was Munaf Patel for his bowling performance taking 3 wickets.
