HTC Hero running the Android OS features new intuitive interface dubbed HTC Sense, 3.2-inch HVGA (320x480) TFT-LCD touchscreen, runs on Qualcomm's 528MHz MSM7200A processor and has 512MB ROM with 228MB RAM, microSD memory expansion slot, 5 megapixel camera with autofocus, digital compass, gravity sensor, built-in internal GPS antenna, Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, Bluetooth 2.0, first Android OS based phone that brings Adobe Flash support for web browsing, HTC Hero will be available for Europe in July 2009, Asia in late summer 2009 and North American version will arrive in late 2009.

Nokia’s touch screen multimedia N97 smartphone Comment

Nokia’s touch screen multimedia N97 smartphone was introduced in India last week through Vodafone and is being dubbed as yet another iPhone killer. The new N97 comes with a large 3.5-inch touch screen, slide out Qwerty keyboard, be able to play the Flash videos (which the Apple iPhone currently is unable to do so), supports instant-messaging and email on the go, five megapixel camera, and 48GB of memory, with one button, ‘always-on’ access to social networking sites such as Facebook, built-in GPS and cost of around Rs. 37000.

Apple Introduces iPhone 3GS Comment

06/08/2009:
At the World Wide Developers Conference in San Francisco, Apple introduced the next generation iPhone . The new iPhone will be known as iPhone 3GS and includes features such as more speed, 3 megapixel camera with autofocus and white balancing, ability to record and edit videos on the handset, built in voice controls for hands free operation, cut, copy, and paste capabilities, device tethering, HTTP streaming, auto-fill, multi language support, and built in compass. The new iPhone 3GS will be available on June 19 for $199 for the 16 GB version, and the 32 GB version will cost $299 with a new contract. And the iPhone 3G, 8 GB version now costs $99 with a new two year contract.

Optional Wireless Charger For Palm Pre Comment

Palm, Inc., smartphone manufacturer, will offer a wireless cellphone charging pad, called the Touchstone. The accessory will be for the upcoming Palm Pre. The technology uses electromagnetic induction to supply the Pre’s battery with energy and was first announced by Palm at Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas in January.

Apple iPod Shuffle Comment

Apple today announced the availability of a new iPod Shuffle . It has been redesigned and provides more capability and functionality. It's half the size of the last generation but with twice the capacity, the latest Shuffle provides a way of letting you know what track you're listening to: It talks. It's available now for $79, the new Shuffle is billed as the "world's smallest music player," and indeed, it looks tiny just 1.8 by 0.7 by 0.3 inches, a little smaller than a AA battery. It also comes with new in line remote on the earphone cord, from which you can adjust the volume, pause and skip tracks. This also is its drawback since third party earphones won't work.

Lenovo launches all in one PC Comment

Lenovo will formally unveil it's all in one PC the IdeaCentre A600 at CES this week. The product is due to be on the market in April 2009 and features 21.5 inch screen, thickness of just 27mm, face recognition security, Dolby-certified audio, touch sensitive controls, remote control doubles as a wireless VOIP handset for making Internet phone calls, Blu ray drive and a TV tuner.

Netbooks Are Making A Run Comment

With the U.S. economy officially in recession and consumers clamping down on spending, the market of the so called Netbooks is looking promising. A Netbook features are light weight, low cost, energy efficient, highly portable laptop suitable for web browsing, email and general purpose applications along with being smaller in size. Asus introduced the tiny Atom powered Eee PC in late 2007, with HP following up with HP Mini Note and then Acer unleashed its Aspire One. Then it was Dell with Dell Inspiron Mini 9 and the Mini 12. Now we will have to wait and see how the Netbook market does in 2009.

Sony Xperia X1 Comment

2008 has brought many new gadgets to the market like the new version of the iPhone, the gPhone, Blackberry Storm (the first touch screen Blackberry) just to mention a few. Sony Xperia X1 was first announced earlier this year at the 2008 Mobile World Congress. The Sony Xperia X1 was introduced in the UK by Vodafone on October 27, 2008 and it released in North America on November 28, 2008 for $799 (unlocked). Sony Xperia X1 features a 3" touchscreen with a resolution of 800x480 pixels (WVGA) with a QWERTY keypad which emerges when the user slides the touchscreen face upward, 3G broadband, WiFi, Bluetooth, and comes with Opera Mobile installed and Java virtual machine (JBed) and supports JavaME.

The much awaited BlackBerry Storm has been delayed and will not probably arrive the stores on its expected date of Nov 14, 2008. Due to last minute software glitch, the phone launch has been delayed. The new smartphone will be the first to have touch screen interface for a BlackBerry and should give the iPhone and TMobile's G1 a run for money. Verzion Wireless will be the exclusively service provide for the BlackBerry Storm and could be priced around $200.

Mitsubishi Launches Laser Powered TV Set Comment

10/30/2008:
Mitsubishi Digital Electronics announced the availability of the world's first, laser powered television. The Mitsubishi LaserVue 65 inch model will be sold for $6999 at specialty retailers across the US. The LaserVue line has been introduced as the most energy efficient large format, high definition television on the market today. LaserVue promises to provide two times the color of many of today's HDTVs and will use less power than LCD and plasma TVs. The LaserVue TV is designed for both wall mount as well as floor stand with a full stereo range of sound capabilities with integrated speakers. Mitsubishi L65A90 LaserVue is offered with a 65 inch screen diagonal with a 73 inch model to be coming later this year. The LaserVue works with a resolution of 1080p and is equipped with 4 HDMI connections.

Intel's Bangalore Design Team Released Dunnington Comment

Intel announces new chip series called Dunnington. The Dunnington was fully designed from scratch by I ntel engineers in Bangalore. The Dunnington is the Xeon 7400 series of server chips marks Intel's first 'true' quad-core processors and is produced on a single piece of silicon. The Bangalore design center also become the first team from Intel outside of the US to complete the design of the 45-nanometer processor. With the release of Dunnington, Intel marked a technical milestone by using a monolithic die, putting all of the cores on a single piece of silicon.

Google Launches Its Own Browser Comment

Google launches its own browser on Labor Day holiday. The much anticipated browser is called, called "Chrome" was announced over the holidays with downloads available as early as Tuesday 02 September 2008. The browser will run on Microsoft's Windows operating system and efforts by Google are still underway to also offer the browser in compatible with Apple Inc.'s Mac computer and the Linux operating system. The download is going to be available in more then 100 countries. This will put the new browser against MicroSoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla's free browser Firefox.

Cuil Search Engine Launched Comment

Yet another search engine has been launched to compete for your searches. Online ad revenues is huge with a big marketplace and hence everyone wants the piece of the pie. Now, a group of former Google employees have launched to compete against their previous employer. The new search engine called Cuil , which is pronounced 'cool', claims to provide a more comprehensive guide to the web. Cuil claims to have indexed more then 120 billion web pages with which they have to search against to provide better results in a new way. Now online time will tell if Cuil will overcome Google, or maybe can instead overcome Yahoo and MSN?.

Sony 16.4 Inch Wide Multimedia Notebook Comment

Sony Corp: has announced the availibility of a new multimedia notebook notebook. The new Vaio FW notebook, is also the first 16.4 inch laptop to hit the market and promises to enable consumers to view High Definition, Blu ray Disc, movies in a manner they are meant to be seen. The notebooks LCD is constructed with a 16:9 aspect ratio, which is standard used while shooting HD movies. The notebook will be powered by new Intel Centrino 2 technology, with more energy efficiency and performance, along with a HDMI output connector to allow users to connect the laptop to the TV for viewing watch movies on a television set. The packaged Vaio Media software is DLNA enabled and hence allows users to wirelessly stream content stored on laptop throughout their home network. Other features include multiple ports and jacks including Memory Stick media/SD card slot, three USB ports, an i.Link Ieee-1394 port, microphone and headphone jack, and a 34mm ExpressCard slot. The Vaio FW notebook is an eco-friendly product with Energy Star 4.0 compliant. The retail unit will start at $1,000 with the premium edition going upto $1,750.

Apple iPhone 3G Launched Comment

Apple recently announced their next version of the iPhone , it's a 3G version with features like global positioning technology, support for Microsoft Exchange Server, geotagging, video playback, audio playback, view PowerPoint attachments, bulk move and delete, a scientific calculator, parental controls, support for 16 languages, and some update to it's look. The other major change will be the price, it's lower. iPhone 3G 8 Giga Byte model will cost $199 while the 16 Giga Byte model will retail for $299. The new iPhone will go on sale July 11.

Nintendo Launches Wii Fit Comment

On Monday 19 May 2008, Nintendo Co Ltd launched it's long awaited "Wii Fit" exercise game within the United States. The new game hopes to get the couch potatoes and women to join in on the gaming fun. The Wii gaming console has already become a great hit with kids and man. The new game will cost $90 and comes with balance board that will senses shifts in posture. The Wii Fit will offer over 40 activities in four categories including aerobics, strength training, balance and yoga. It will also track users Body Mass Index and weight and provide nice charts of their progress and provide fitness tips. While Microsoft and Sony have put their focus on high definition, ultra realistic games, Nintendo instead choose the other route of trageting more interactive games, which has been an great nice surprise by the industry and consumer.

Zero Emissions City In Abu Dhabi Comment

Last week a project was started in Abu Dhabi on building a city that is suppose to create zero emissions. The city will house 50,000 people and 1,500 businesses with a goal of using extremely little energy. The city is expected to cost around $22 billion, of which $4 billion will be provide by the Abu Dhabi government for the infrastructure. Electric transports will provide door to door service using battery powered vehicles with renewable energy and stored onboard in batteries.

IBM Developes Solar Energy Solution Comment

IBM has developed a way to make concentrated photovoltaic cells that are more efficient in converting the sun's energy into electricity. The technology is based on the on technology used to cool computer chips. The main principle behind the technology is to use a large lens to focus light onto a relatively small piece of photovoltaic semiconductor material and thus using only fraction of the semiconductor material. The solution involves placing an ultrathin layer of liquid metal, a compound of gallium and indium, between the two surfaces.

Sony XEL 1 OLED TV Comment

The LCD monitors and TV are getting thinner by the day. When plasma TV first came to the market, people were left wondering where did the big caboose behind the screen go? Sony now has introduced the Sony XEL 1 OLED TV . A 11 inch widescreen television which is wafer thin with 1/8th of an inch deep. The model uses new panel technology called OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) and hence is priced at $2,500.

iPhone Has A Competitor? Comment

Today at the CTIA, Samsung introduced the Instinct . The Instinct looks and may feel much Apple's iPhone but comes with many of the features missing from iPhone. The phone will release in mid-June and be avaliable for Sprint users. Some of the new features are 3G access, replaceable battery, expandable memory, a 2MP camera, stereo Bluetooth and feedback for the touchscreen. The Instinct measures 4.6" by 2.2" by 0.49" and weighs 4.4 ounces.

Comcast and BitTorrent To collaborate Comment

Comcast and BitTorrent have agreed to become collaborators. A while back Comcast admitted to disrupting file sharing traffic based on the BitTorrent protocol which has caused some stir in what constitutes appropriate "network management" by Internet service providers. Comcast will no reconfiguring its networks to be manage data in a "protocol agnostic" manner.

Blackberry Service Possible Ban In India Comment

03/24/2008:
Blackberry service providers must work with licensor Research in Motion (RIM) of Canada to provide full proof security system in the country by March 31, 2008 or must stop the services. The Blackberry service is currently being used by over four lakh users and stopping the service will not allow these users to access email in form of SMS. The service is currently provided by AirTel, Reliance and Vodafone. The major issue seems to be that the encryption process applied to email utilizes servers that are located in Russia, United States or Canada, but no servers in India. The Indian security agencies feels that messages through the service cannot be accessed by local security authorities and hence may affect the national security of India.

Microsoft's Open XML document standard Comment

03/21/2008:
Microsoft's Open XML document standard not approved by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). ISO member-countries had eceived request for recommendation from ECMA six months ago and ISO will take a final decision based on global response on March 29. Given that more than 95% of Office applications are Microsoft products, this will be a big blow to Microsoft. Now will have to see how this effects the rival ODF format has been developed by a consortium called the Organisation for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS) which has been supported by IBM, Red Hat, Sun Microsystems and others.

Sony Wins The DVD war? Comment

02/19/2008:
Has Sony finally won the much known DVD war? Today, Toshiba announced that it is dropping the high-definition DVD battle and hence will stop production of its HD DVD players and recorders. And this may signal a victory for Sony's Blu-ray format. Recently Warner Bros', WalMart, UK retailer Woolworths US chain Best Buy, and US online retailer Netflix have backed Sony's Blu-ray format and hence could have forced Toshiba into it's decision.
Blu-ray’s was backed by Sony and Philips while HD DVD was baked by Toshiba and Hitachi. This may be good news for consumers in that they have only one format to choose from, but it will also make consumers that bought the HD DVD players anger, since they will have less choice of films to watch on their player. BSNL ties up with SOMA for WiMax Comment

01/27/2008:
BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd) has signed US firm SOMA Networks to deploy the world’s largest mobile WiMax network in India. It's a project with both parties will benefit from the revenues, SOMA has agreed to provide the technology to BSNL. Mobile WiMax will be rolled out in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh and make avaialble wireless broadband coverage to nearly 200 million people over the next 3 years. This will make it the first deployment of mobile WiMax per the 802.16e standard.

Today at the annual Macworld Expo, Apple Inc's Chief Executive Steve Jobs introduced a Ultralight MacBook called MacBook Air. The MacBook Air is 0.76 inch thick at its widest point and comes with 1.6 or 1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GB of RAM, and an 80GB hard drive and just one USB port with prices to start at $1,799. He also announced that iTunes will allow users to download movies from all major studios for a charge of $3.99 for new releases and $2.99 for old titles. Once downloaded the movies can be watched on iPod/iPhone and your PC, the movies are valid for 30 days to start watching once downloaded and 24 hours after that to finish.

Motorola will acquire Soundbuzz, Singapore based pan Asian music provider, which will add Motorola's MotoMusic service to India, South East Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. The MotoMusic service is currently being provided in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Soundbuzz provides consumer ability to downloads music to mobile device using the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) digital rights management (DRM) technology. Panasonic 150 inch HD plasma TV Comment

01/07/2008:
Today at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Panasonic unveiled a 150 inch HD plasma TV, making it the world largest TV to date. Its screen is equivalent of nine 50 inch sets and features 8.84 million pixel image resolution. Panasonic has also has a 103 inch version, which cost $70,000 when it was launched. The price for the 150 inch has yet not been set. Panasonic also releaved a ultra thin 50 inch panel that is less then an inch thick. Panasonic also plans to intergrate Google Inc.'s YouTube and Google's Picasa, photo sharing site in future versions of it TVs.

Wikia Launched Comment

Today, marks the enterance of a new way of searching. Jimmy Wales, cofounder of online encyclopedia Wikipedia, and his team have launched Wikia to give the online community a new way to search for information. Will this new search engine hurt the established search engines like Google, Yahoo, MSN and the others? Only time will tell. It will take sometime for Wikia to reach the online community and enchance Wikia. The concept behind Wikia is similar to encyclopedia Wikipedia and hence will allow the online community to help better the search engine experince and put the results best suited for a given query in front of the searcher.
Wikia has been backed by the funding from Amazon.com, venture capital firm Bessemer Venture Partners, Netscape Communications cofounder Marc Andreesen, LinkedIn cofounder Reid Hoffman, and Lotus Development founder and Electronic Frontier Foundation cofounder Mitch Kapor.

Google Preparing To Launch Knol Comment

12/21/2007:
There is some news around the web that Google is preparing to launch a site called Knol. The new site would be a combination of Wikipedia and Squidoo and would allow users to post stuff to become a knowledgebase of everything. Google will probably intices users to post articles by giving them a share of the revenue that Google will generate from that page. With this people may question what Google is upto, until now Google was justing indexing page on the web, now it seems to be helping people create content on the web with tools like the Blogger and now Knol.

Microsoft, Google, Yahoo Fined Comment

12/19/2007:
The big three online advertisers, Microsoft, Google, and Yahoo were fined for allowing online gambling businesses to advertise online gambling using the three companies respectively ads mediums. The U.S. Department of Justice announced that the fines added to the over $40 million with Microsoft is to pay the largest penalty totaling $21 million. While Yahoo will pay $7.5 million and Google is to pay $3 million.

Ask.com Enables Privacy Control Comment

12/12/2007:
Ask.com announced the availibility of AskEraser, a privacy control that erases information about users' search queries within a few hours. With AskEraser enabled for a given users, all Ask.com cookies including IP address, user ID and session ID cookies and complete text of search queries are erased across the Ask.com search areas but cannot delete it from from the servers of third-party companies. But the side effect of AskEraser being enabled is that some of the Ask.com personalization options will not function.

Google Enables More Apps for the iPhone Comment

Today Google announced that is has optimized the Google Search, Gmail, Google Calendar and Google Reader for the iPhone which builds upon other Google products like Maps and YouTube that are already available. When a iPhone user visits the Google main site, the iPhone is automatically detected and the apps are made avaialble to the user via iPhone's Safari browser. In other news, Google introduced the addition of AIM (AOL Instant Messenger) To Gmail.

Yahoo Flickr Image Editing Tools Comment

Yahoo's online photo sharing service Flickr, an online photo sharing website, today announced the introduction of new online digital imagee editing tools that can be used by members to edit photos. The tools suite will be provided by Picnik. Flickr was purchased by Yahoo back in 2005 at which time, Yahoo discontinued it's own Yahoo Photos service for Flickr.

Vudu Box Allows To Watch DVD-quality movies Comment

Vudu, Inc., in Santa Clara, California, will be introducing a new TV set top device called Vudu box. The Vudu box is scheduled to be launced later this year for around $300. The device will be directly connected to your TV via HDMI, component or composite video connections and will be capable of displaying DVD-quality movies instantaneously using a peer-to-peer technology. This means that the movie will not be downloaded from a central location but instead from other online Vudu box.

The iPhone will launch today at 6:00PM all over the USA. The service for the phone will be exculsivly provided by AT\&T. The phone is marking the next big product from Apple after the much successful iPod. Hundreds of gadget fans have already lined up to get there hands on this new phone which mixes the regular phone with capabilities like playing music and video, Web browsing, and many more. It is priced at $499 (4GB model) and $599 (8GB), which does not include the phone plan to be provided by AT\&T from $60 to $100 a month.

Apple's iPhone to be launched on Friday, June 29 at 6:00 pm Eastern time (2200 GMT). The new device from Apple promises to bring together mobile phone, camera, web browser, music and video player in a single pocket-sized personal unit. AT\&T is the sole telecoms carrier authorized to provide service for the iPhone. The iPhone will sell for $499 or $599 depending on the model.
